How a New Zealand manufacturer stood up SAP BTP Integration Suite and connected its subscription billing system

A New Zealand technology and manufacturing company Delivered 2025

Mindset assessed, stood up, and now manages SAP BTP Integration Suite for a family-owned New Zealand manufacturer, and delivered a subscription billing integration that went live and was sustained through four change orders.

By the numbers

  • 2+ years

AMS engagement, renewed into Year 2

  • 4

Change orders sustaining the Chargebee integration

  • 2,200+ hours

BTP support delivery hours across the team

Before

A BTP investment without an operating model

  • SAP BTP licensed but no partner or plan to stand it up as a working Integration Suite capability.
  • Chargebee subscription billing running separately from the SAP order systems, with no reliable connection.
  • No ongoing platform governance or managed-services support in place.

After

A governed BTP platform and a live billing integration

  • Integration Suite stood up, governed, and managed on an ongoing basis through a renewed AMS engagement.
  • Chargebee live and connected to the SAP order systems, sustained through four change orders.
  • A multi-year managed-services relationship with a pipeline for the next Integration Strategy phase.

Why this matters

A manufacturer that had the BTP license but needed a partner to make it real. An assessment that turned into AMS, a billing integration that went live and stayed live, and an engagement that kept growing.

The challenge

A family-owned New Zealand manufacturer making animal management and perimeter security technology had invested in SAP BTP and needed a partner to turn that investment into a working capability. Buying the platform and operating it are different problems. The team knew it needed expertise to stand up Integration Suite, establish governance, and keep things running.

The company also needed to connect Chargebee, its subscription billing system, to its SAP order and statement-of-work systems, including extension points in SAP ECC. That integration had to work reliably at go-live and stay working as the business evolved.

What we did

Mindset started with a fixed-scope Integration Assessment to establish and enable BTP services with a focus on Integration Suite. That assessment gave the manufacturer a clear picture of what was needed and a concrete plan for standing it up.

The advisory work converted into an ongoing BTP Support Services managed-services engagement, staffed by a delivery pod including integration developers, a Basis specialist, and general developer support, with US-based architecture oversight. The team operates the BTP platform on the manufacturer's behalf, handling incidents, enhancements, and platform governance on an ongoing basis. The AMS engagement ran through its first year and renewed for a second.

In parallel, Mindset delivered the Chargebee integration: a US-led integration team built the connection between Chargebee and the SAP order systems, including the ABAP extension points needed in ECC. The integration went live and was subsequently supported through four change orders covering additional development, bug fixes, and go-live support as the scope evolved.

The outcomes

The manufacturer now runs SAP BTP Integration Suite as a managed, governed capability rather than an unused license. The AMS relationship has sustained and renewed, and the platform has been active long enough to generate a follow-on Integration Strategy RFP for the next phase of the program.

The Chargebee integration is live and has been stable through four change orders, meaning the subscription billing data flows reliably between Chargebee and the SAP order systems without manual reconciliation.

The engagement grew from a 30-thousand-dollar assessment into a sustained multi-year managed-services and integration relationship, with a pipeline for the next phase of integration work.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

If we built this integration today.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

This manufacturer had bought SAP BTP and needed it turned into a working integration capability, starting with Integration Suite and a subscription-billing connection into its SAP order and ECC systems.

The data product

Governed integration data product on SAP Business Data Cloud

A governed data product on SAP Business Data Cloud gives the agent grounded meaning for the order, billing, and extension data moving across the flows, so its mapping suggestions match the real business semantics rather than guessing from field names.

The Joule agent

Integration Suite Flow Builder

Reads the source and target schemas for a new connection, like a subscription-billing platform talking to SAP order and ECC extension points, and drafts the integration flow with mappings, error handling, and retry logic. A person reviews and approves before anything deploys.

The Fiori app

Integration Suite Flow Builder (BTP, not a Fiori app)

Integration here lives in SAP Integration Suite on BTP, not in an S/4HANA Fiori app, so there is no embedded-Joule launchpad tile to point at. The honest answer is the Flow Builder design experience with Joule assistance inside Integration Suite itself.

Lives in SAP Integration Suite on BTP, not the Fiori launchpad.

In practice we would mine the current integration patterns in SAP Signavio first, map the BTP and ECC landscape in SAP LeanIX, and let MIND accelerators carry the old flows into the new build.

What we built

  • Assessment converted directly into AMS engagement

    BTP Integration Assessment

A fixed-scope assessment to establish and enable BTP services, diagnose the starting state, and produce a plan for standing up Integration Suite as an operational capability.

  • AMS renewed into Year 2 with 2,200+ delivery hours

    BTP Integration Suite managed services

An ongoing AMS engagement staffed by an India-based delivery pod with US architecture oversight, covering integration operations, incidents, Basis support, and platform governance.

  • Live at go-live and sustained through four change orders

    Chargebee-to-SAP integration

Built the integration between Chargebee subscription billing and the manufacturer's SAP order systems, including ABAP extension points in SAP ECC.

  • ECC integration points supporting live subscription billing flow

ABAP extension points in SAP ECC

Custom ABAP development extending SAP ECC to support the Chargebee integration's data flows and business logic requirements.

  • Integration stable and maintained through four iterations

    Change order support through go-live

Four change orders supporting additional Chargebee integration development, bug fixes, and go-live as the scope evolved after initial delivery.
