Energy & Utilities

Utilities running SAP at the edge of the grid.

Utilities live on continuity. SAP runs the work order, the crew, the materials truck, and the meter-to-cash cycle. Joule agents sit at the messy edges where the grid telemetry and the work-order backlog collide.

Joule agents in Energy & Utilities

What we have shipped, and what we can build for you.

SAP validated our first 20 Joule agents in early 2026. The library keeps growing. Below are the agents that land in energy & utilities, plus concepts our agent factory can build next. See the full catalog

What each agent does on its own

  • Flags watches and tells your team, takes no action itself
  • Suggests drafts the work, a person approves it before anything happens
  • Acts handles routine steps itself, within limits your team sets
Shipped Suggests

Plant Maintenance Work Orders

Triages open maintenance notifications and drafts work orders with history context.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM
Outcome:
PM compliance rate
Shipped Suggests

Plant Maintenance Service Technician

Builds a tech day around skill, location, equipment history, and the weather window.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM, MRS
Outcome:
Wrench time, first-time-fix
Concept Suggests

Outage Coordination Agent

Receives a fault notification, identifies affected feeder and customers, drafts an emergency work order, and reserves materials and crew.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM, IS-U, ADMS/OMS, GIS
Outcome:
SAIDI, SAIFI, time-to-first-truck
Concept Suggests

Storm Mutual-Aid Mobilization

Watches NWS storm-track data, models likely outages against historic patterns, and drafts mutual-aid requests with material and lodging pre-staged.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM, MM, Concur, NWS feeds
Outcome:
Restoration time per major event
Concept Suggests

Vegetation Management Agent

Joins LiDAR encroachment data with historic outage causes and feeder reliability, then ranks circuits and opens trim work orders by zone.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM, GIS link
Outcome:
Vegetation-caused SAIDI minutes
Concept Suggests

Regulatory Filing Assembly

Pulls a FERC, NERC, or PUC filing from SAP data instead of three weeks of manual extracts. Drafts narrative sections and flags gaps.

SAP:
S/4HANA, IS-U, SAC
Outcome:
Hours per filing
Concept Suggests

Meter-to-Cash Exception Agent

Watches IS-U billing exceptions, classifies (estimated read, rate-class mismatch, meter swap), and drafts a fix.

SAP:
S/4HANA IS-U, FI-CA
Outcome:
Unbilled revenue days
Engagement shapes

A few ways a Energy & Utilities engagement usually starts.

01

Field mobility on Fiori

4-7 months

Fiori apps for field crews, designed in the AppHaus with the people in the truck, instrumented for adoption.

See a case study

02

IS-U meter-to-cash modernization

6-10 months

Cleaner billing exceptions, faster cash, fewer phone calls. The back-office work that keeps customers from churning.

03

Outage and storm-response pilot

8-12 weeks

A Joule agent on one operating area, integrated to OMS, scoped to one storm season.

Common questions

Before you book.

Do you do IS-U?
Yes. Meter-to-cash, device management, and the billing exception workflows. We have shipped IS-U work at scale.
Can agents act during a storm?
Containment and pre-staging are PROPOSE actions by default. The dispatcher and the storm room stay in control. ACT is reserved for narrow routine items like a meter re-bill.
What about distributed energy resources (DER)?
DER changes the work-order pattern. We see this in field mobility and outage workflows. Our work with Xcel and other utilities tracks the shift.
How do you integrate to OMS, GIS, and SCADA?
BTP and Integration Suite. We have done the OSI Monarch and ESRI patterns. Joule agents read across these without copying the data.

Let's talk Energy & Utilities.

Bring the real problem. We will spend a working day on it, with the people who will actually have to live with the answer.
