Manufacturing

The line, on SAP.

On the shop floor, decisions happen by the minute. Joule agents sit between the planning system and the line, reading the schedule, the work order, the quality signal, and the asset health, then handing the supervisor the next call.

Joule agents in Manufacturing

What we have shipped, and what we can build for you.

SAP validated our first 20 Joule agents in early 2026. The library keeps growing. Below are the agents that land in manufacturing, plus concepts our agent factory can build next. See the full catalog

What each agent does on its own

  • Flags watches and tells your team, takes no action itself
  • Suggests drafts the work, a person approves it before anything happens
  • Acts handles routine steps itself, within limits your team sets
Shipped Suggests

Plant Maintenance Work Orders

Triages open maintenance notifications and drafts work orders with full history context.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM
Outcome:
PM compliance rate, MTTR
Shipped Suggests

Plant Maintenance Service Technician

Helps techs plan their day with open work orders by priority and spare parts.

SAP:
S/4HANA PM, MRS
Outcome:
Wrench time, first-time-fix rate
Shipped Suggests

MRP Exception Processor

Surfaces material exceptions that hit production scheduling, with the action proposed per cluster.

SAP:
S/4HANA MM, PP, IBP
Outcome:
Stock-outs, premium freight spend
Concept Suggests

Production Order Concierge

Reads open process or production orders, confirmations, material availability, and capacity load, then ranks by SLA risk and drafts the shift handover.

SAP:
S/4HANA PP, PP-PI, MES integration
Outcome:
Schedule attainment, OTIF at the line
Concept Suggests

Quality Notification Investigator

Reads the QM notification, defect codes, batch genealogy, and recent process changes, pulls similar past notifications, and proposes the disposition.

SAP:
S/4HANA QM, batch management
Outcome:
First-pass yield, time to root-cause
Concept Flags

OEE Drift Coach

Decomposes OEE into availability, performance, and quality losses per line per shift and names the biggest contributor in plain language.

SAP:
SAP Digital Manufacturing, S/4HANA
Outcome:
OEE per line, time-to-aware on drift
Concept Flags

Predictive Asset Reliability

Scores remaining useful life per asset from sensor and maintenance history, then proposes a maintenance window that fits the production schedule.

SAP:
SAP Asset Performance Management, S/4HANA PM
Outcome:
Unplanned downtime, MTBF
Concept Suggests

Batch Genealogy Tracer

Traces forward and backward from any batch through receipts, blends, packs, and ships, then drafts the recall communication.

SAP:
S/4HANA, batch management, EWM, QM
Outcome:
Recall scope precision, time-to-trace
Concept Suggests

Changeover and Setup Planner

Reads the schedule and the setup matrix between products and proposes a resequencing that cuts total changeover time.

SAP:
S/4HANA PP, PP/DS, Digital Manufacturing
Outcome:
Changeover hours, schedule attainment
Concept Suggests

Digital Work Instruction Generator

Reads the engineering BOM, routing, and standard work and drafts step-by-step operator instructions with images and safety call-outs.

SAP:
SAP Digital Manufacturing, S/4HANA
Outcome:
New-product ramp time
Engagement shapes

A few ways a manufacturing engagement usually starts.

01

Fiori-on-the-line rollout

4-7 months

Replace paper and 90s-era screens with Fiori apps designed in the AppHaus with the operators who will use them.

See a case study

02

SAP Digital Manufacturing pilot

3-5 months

Get OEE and quality signals out of the line and into S/4HANA without ripping out the existing MES.

03

Predictive maintenance pilot

8-12 weeks

One asset class, one line, one outcome. Prove the agent and the data path before scaling across the plant.

The work, in Manufacturing

Real engagements, real outcomes.

GA 2026

BDC for production analytics

Production telemetry, quality signal, and finance impact on one governed plane via SAP-managed Databricks.

The shared spine

Built on BTP, designed for the people running it.

The manufacturing work doesn't run alone. It sits on BTP, on a clean data layer, and increasingly under Joule agents. Same architecture as the rest of the SAP work we do.

Common questions

Before you book.

Do you replace the MES?
Usually no. SAP Digital Manufacturing connects to whatever MES you already run and pulls the shop-floor signal into S/4HANA. Replacing the MES is a separate, much bigger decision.
How do you handle the people side?
AppHaus design sessions with line operators and supervisors. We do not ship a screen they have not signed off on. This is why our manufacturing-floor adoption metrics hold up.
Can the agents act on the line?
Default is ALERT or PROPOSE. ACT is reserved for narrow, fully-deterministic cases. The supervisor stays in the loop on everything that matters.
What about regulated industries?
We have shipped in food, pharma, medical devices, and chemicals. The batch genealogy, QM workflows, and 21 CFR Part 11 controls are part of our default delivery, not a bolt-on.
How fast can we instrument OEE?
Six to eight weeks to a working OEE signal per line if the confirmations and downtime codes are usable. If they are not, we fix those first. The fix is part of the agent's value, not a prerequisite.

Let's talk manufacturing.

Bring the real problem. We will spend a working day on it, with the people who will actually have to live with the answer.
