How a specialty manufacturer lit up reporting and variant configuration on SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud

A specialty corrosion-protection manufacturer Delivered 2025

Mindset delivered reporting and analytics enablement followed by variant configuration for a specialty manufacturer running SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, then stayed on as an advisory partner through 2026.

Before

A new platform, not yet producing value

  • SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud live but reporting and analytics not yet enabled, leaving the business without operational visibility.
  • Variant configuration needed for product lines and no in-house Public Cloud expertise to deliver it.
  • No standing access to platform experts for ongoing questions.

After

Reporting, VC, and a standing advisory relationship

  • Embedded analytics and BTP reporting live on S/4HANA Public Cloud.
  • Variant configuration built and extended through a change order, covering the full product-line scope.
  • Ongoing advisory access to a senior architect for continued platform growth.

Why this matters

A mid-market manufacturer that moved to S/4HANA Public Cloud and needed focused, scoped help to get value from it. No large program. Three targeted engagements and a standing advisory relationship that kept delivering.

The challenge

A Minnesota-based specialty manufacturer of corrosion-inhibiting packaging products and bio-based plastics had moved to SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and needed to get real value out of it. Reporting and analytics weren't yet live, which left the business operating without the visibility the platform was supposed to provide.

The company also needed to configure variant configuration for its product lines, a technically specific requirement that demanded hands-on S/4HANA Public Cloud expertise. As a mid-market manufacturer, the team needed focused, bounded engagements rather than a large-program approach, and ongoing access to experts who knew the Public Cloud model.

What we did

Mindset delivered a sequence of focused S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP BTP engagements, each scoped to a specific outcome. The first project was reporting and analytics enablement, standing up embedded analytics and BTP reporting on top of the company's Public Cloud instance so the business could see what the system knew.

Once reporting was live, Mindset moved into variant configuration, working with a senior functional analyst to build out the VC setup for the manufacturer's product lines and then extending the scope through a change order as additional configuration needs became clear.

A BTP enablement engagement ran alongside the VC work, adding BTP capabilities to the Public Cloud foundation. After the project phases closed, Mindset moved into a standing advisory relationship, providing access to a senior architect on a retainer basis so the team has a consistent expert to call on as questions arise. That advisory relationship has continued into 2026.

The outcomes

The manufacturer now runs reporting and analytics on its S/4HANA Public Cloud instance, giving the business the operational visibility it was missing. Variant configuration is live for its product lines, including the extended scope from the change order.

The pattern of small, targeted engagements followed by standing advisory access matched what the company actually needed: expert delivery without over-scoping, and a reliable way to get answers as the business grows on the platform.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

Reporting that answers back.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

This specialty manufacturer moved to SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and needed to actually get reporting and analytics working on top of it, which is exactly where a Joule analytics agent would read the live models and propose answers instead of leaving people to dig.

The data product

Cloud ERP Intelligence

Grounds the agent in governed S/4HANA Public Cloud operational and financial signals through SAP Knowledge Graph, so reporting reflects real business meaning rather than raw table joins. Variant configuration data sits in the same semantic layer.

Intelligent Application on SAP Business Data Cloud

The Joule agent

Embedded Analytics Insight Agent

Reads the live CDS analytical models and operational data in S/4HANA Public Cloud, then proposes the reports, KPIs, and variances a finance or product lead should look at next. It drafts the narrative behind a number instead of leaving someone to chase it across apps.

The Fiori app

Multidimensional Reporting (with embedded Joule)

The standard S/4HANA Public Cloud analytical apps where you slice CDS views live, now with Joule sitting in the launchpad to answer questions in plain language and pull up the right view. No separate BI stack to feed.

Embedded in the Fiori launchpad.

We would mine how reporting and variant configuration really flow in SAP Signavio first, map the application estate in SAP LeanIX, and let MIND accelerators carry the old reports and config rules across to the new model.
