Building a PR/PO mobile app with a global specialty chemicals producer

A Global Specialty Chemicals Producer Delivered 2020

Mindset designed and built a purchase-requisition and purchase-order mobile app for a global chemicals producer, then transferred the knowledge so the team could carry mobile development forward on their own.

By the numbers

  • 1 mobile app

PR/PO application designed and delivered on SAP Fiori

  • 1 team

Internal business applications team equipped with mobile development skills

Before

No internal SAP mobile capability

  • Purchase-requisition and purchase-order process handled without mobile access.
  • No in-house experience with SAP Fiori mobile development.
  • No reference architecture or delivery patterns to reuse for future mobile work.

After

Mobile app delivered, skills transferred

  • A working PR/PO mobile app on SAP Fiori ready for production use.
  • The business applications team with hands-on mobile development experience.
  • A delivery approach and reference architecture the team can apply to future mobile projects.

Why this matters

A global chemicals producer that wanted mobile capability inside the house, not just a vendor-built app. Mindset designed and built the solution while teaching the team to do it themselves.

The challenge

The specialty chemicals company wanted to bring SAP mobile capabilities in-house but hadn't yet built the internal skills to do it. They had a practical use case ready to go: a mobile solution for the purchase-requisition and purchase-order process. What they needed was a capable partner who could deliver the app and teach the team while doing it, not just hand off a finished product.

What we did

Mindset ran a structured mobile enablement pilot built around the PR/PO use case. The team designed and built the mobile application using SAP Fiori and SAPUI5, keeping the client's business applications team closely involved throughout. The engagement was explicitly set up as a learning exercise as much as a delivery: the client's team worked alongside Mindset's architect to understand the approach, the tooling, and the design decisions, so they could apply mobile development practices to future work themselves.

The outcomes

The pilot delivered a working PR/PO mobile application on SAP Fiori and gave the business applications team direct, hands-on exposure to SAP mobile development practices. By the end of the engagement, the team had both a production-ready app and a clearer picture of how to approach future mobile work without relying entirely on outside help.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

The PR/PO step lives in Joule now.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

This was a mobile pilot for the purchase-requisition to purchase-order flow, the exact step a procurement agent now drives from inside the Fiori launchpad.

The data product

Spend Intelligence

Grounds the agent in real spend, supplier, and contract patterns so its PO drafts match how the company actually buys, not just what a single requisition says.

Intelligent Application on SAP Business Data Cloud

The Joule agent

PR to PO Accelerator

Reads open requisitions, source lists, contracts, and supplier data, then drafts the matching purchase order with the right vendor, price, and delivery date. A buyer reviews and approves before anything is released.

SAP S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement, SAP Ariba · PROPOSE · PR-to-PO cycle time and touchless PO rate

The Fiori app

Manage Purchase Requisitions / Manage Purchase Orders

The standard S/4HANA procurement apps with Joule built in, so a buyer can ask for the requisitions waiting on a PO and have the conversion drafted right there. Same flow the team carried on a phone, now on the desk and the device.

Embedded in the Fiori launchpad.

We would mine the real PR/PO process in SAP Signavio first, map the app and integration estate in SAP LeanIX, and lean on MIND accelerators to carry the mobile patterns we built here into the new model.
