Why this matters
Building a company's first BTP-native application while simultaneously standing up the BTP landscape to host it, with a Design Thinking phase that validated the user experience before the build began.
The challenge
The company manufactures and distributes products across multiple consumer categories, with a field sales force that needs fast, clear answers about where customer orders stand.
Its existing order-tracking tools were fragmented and not built for mobile. Sales reps on the road had no single place to check order status, and operations teams had no structured way to see the same picture. The company also needed to prepare for a future move to S/4HANA, which meant the solution had to work with its current SAP ECC environment while being built on a foundation that would carry forward.
And before any application could be built, a governed SAP BTP environment had to be stood up from scratch.
What we did
Mindset ran the engagement in two phases, starting with a five-week discovery sprint that included a Design Thinking workshop, user interviews, app prototypes, and a solution architecture definition before a line of code was written.
The technical build was organized around three components. An Order Tracking Engine sits at the center: a replication and virtualization layer that pulls near-real-time SAP data into standardized OData APIs, connects to SQL Server through SDI and SDA adapters, and is modeled for reuse across future data domains. Scoreboard Apps deliver the front-end experience for sales reps and operations, with mobile-friendly and desktop web interfaces, role-based order visibility, advanced search covering 30 days of live data and 18 months in historical mode.
A Communication Manager handles notifications end to end: subscription-based internal and external alerts, order-status push and email notifications, and opt-out controls, all secured to the company's corporate identity standards.
The BTP enablement work ran in parallel. Mindset built a governed BTP landscape from the ground up: sub-account structure, role collections, Cloud Connector, a HANA tenant with custom HANA artifacts, Event Mesh and Integration Suite implementation, and a Node.js framework supporting the communication services. Mindset's BTP Cost and App Analyzer tooling was installed to give the client visibility into platform consumption from day one.
A 13-person blended US and India team ran the full build on a Scrum cadence.
The outcomes
The company now has a production, mobile-ready order tracking platform on a governed SAP BTP estate that did not exist before the engagement.
Sales reps can check near-real-time order status from a phone or laptop, filter and search across 18 months of order history, and receive automated notifications when order states change. Operations teams see the same role-appropriate view. The BTP foundation, with its sub-accounts, HANA tenant, Event Mesh, and Integration Suite instance, gives the company a reusable platform to build future SAP capabilities on, including the planned S/4HANA migration and analytics work.
