Eliminating Pain Points in Shipping and Receiving Processes

Before partnering with Mindset, vendors needed to access the client’s SAP EWM system via Citrix for its inbound and outbound shipping updates. This process was complex and rife with inefficiencies, due to the multiple t-codes and screens required to create and confirm shipment. Mindset leveraged its Design Thinking process to gain a deep understanding of the problem, then created low-resolution mock-ups to brainstorm the potential solution and tested them with stakeholders. The Mindset team finalized the solution by establishing the SAP Digital Core, setting up the client’s SAP Agile/DevOps process, and executing design and development between SimpLEX, Process Orders, and Document Search. The end result dramatically simplified and streamlined inbound and outbound shipping pain points.

Final screens give users a clear view of shipment status and available action steps.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

Clear the shipment that won't confirm.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

The real pain here was shipping on SAP EWM, where external 3PL vendors logged into Citrix and ground through a stack of T-codes and screens just to create and confirm a shipment, and internal material moves spanned several screens before goods could leave the dock.

The data product

Cloud ERP Intelligence

The SAP-delivered intelligent application on SAP Business Data Cloud that brings warehouse and shipping signals together over governed S/4HANA semantics, so the agent reasons on real dwell and throughput instead of a stale extract.

The Joule agent

Logistics Exception Triage

Reads the open inbound and outbound deliveries and the internal movement tasks across the EWM-managed sites, then flags the shipments and moves that are stuck or erroring instead of making a vendor or a floor user chase them. For each one it drafts the next step, the confirmation or the corrected move, for a person to approve.

The Fiori app

EWM shipping and goods-movement Fiori apps (Joule-embedded)

The S/4HANA EWM execution apps for inbound, outbound, and internal moves with Joule answering in plain language, so a vendor or floor user can ask why a shipment will not confirm and get the blocking step back in context. We name the category here rather than one app since EWM shipping execution spans several.

Embedded in the Fiori launchpad.

We would mine the actual shipping and internal-movement flows in SAP Signavio first, map the EWM and Fiori footprint in SAP LeanIX, and let MIND accelerators carry the old SimpLEX logic into the new build.
