Why this matters

The S/4 Readiness Check is only useful if someone can explain what it means. This engagement started with that translation problem and grew into the client's ongoing BTP foundation.

The challenge

The retailer was planning a move from SAP ECC to S/4HANA and had already run SAP's S/4 Readiness Check and Custom Code Analysis reports. The problem was interpreting what those reports actually meant for the business. The technical findings were dense, the implications for the migration timeline were unclear, and leadership needed something they could act on.

At the same time, the company was standing up a SAP Business Technology Platform environment for the first time. The internal team had limited experience administering BTP and needed both the architecture and the knowledge to run it.

What we did

Mindset ran a series of focused advisory engagements tied to a Master Services Agreement. The first was a five-week S/4 Readiness Advisory: Mindset's team reviewed the existing S/4 Readiness Check and Custom Code Analysis outputs, produced technical interpretations and business summaries for each finding, and delivered an executive summary with clear migration readiness recommendations the leadership team could use for planning.

The second engagement was a BTP Enablement phase covering governance, architecture, and platform setup. Mindset deployed an architect to build governance and architecture recommendations, then ran an eight-hour workshop introducing BTP fundamentals, SAP Build, and connectivity to the internal team. Platform enablement included designing and provisioning a multi-tier sub-account structure, shared services, trust and authentication configuration, a DevOps plan with CTMS transport management, and system connections through Cloud Connector.

A follow-on advisory arrangement gave the retailer a pool of on-call BTP architect hours for emergent questions and ad-hoc administration support as the platform matured.

The outcomes

The retailer came out of the readiness advisory with an independent, business-readable assessment of its custom code burden and migration readiness, giving the leadership team a credible basis for migration planning rather than raw SAP tool output they couldn't interpret.

On BTP, the team went from no internal experience to a properly governed multi-tier environment with a trained internal team that knows how to operate it. The sub-account structure, shared services, and DevOps pipeline were all in place before the team began building on the platform.

The relationship evolved from a one-time readiness check into ongoing BTP advisory support spanning multiple years.
