SAP Fiori training and UX advisory for an industrial test and measurement manufacturer

An Industrial Test and Measurement Manufacturer Delivered 2018

A Minnesota-based industrial manufacturer built internal Fiori capability through a series of targeted training and UX advisory engagements, establishing the foundation for a modern SAP user experience.

Before

An SAP estate without a Fiori roadmap

  • Dated SAP user experience with no internal Fiori expertise to improve it.
  • No strategy for the SAP Launchpad or role-based UX.
  • Reliance on external guidance for decisions the internal team wanted to own.

After

Internal Fiori capability and a clear UX direction

  • Internal team trained in SAPUI5 and SAP Fiori development.
  • Fiori UX strategy and Launchpad structure defined for the SAP environment.
  • A foundation the company could build on without starting from scratch each time.

Why this matters

A manufacturing company building internal Fiori capability through targeted training and advisory rather than a large outsourced program, so the team could own the UX direction themselves.

The challenge

A Minnesota-based manufacturer of test systems and precision sensors had a gap between its SAP investment and how its people actually used it. The user experience was dated, and the team lacked the internal knowledge to evaluate or build modern Fiori applications.

The company wanted to close that gap without committing to a large program. The goal was practical: build internal Fiori capability, understand what a modern SAP launchpad could look like, and get the team equipped to make informed UX decisions.

What we did

Mindset worked with the manufacturer through a sequence of focused engagements in 2017 and 2018. The first was a hands-on Fiori training that gave the internal team direct exposure to SAPUI5 and the Fiori design system.

That was followed by two UX advisory engagements: the first covering general Fiori UX strategy, and the second focused specifically on the SAP Launchpad and how the company could structure its user experience across roles and business functions. Mindset's architect met the team in person to run working sessions and seed adoption from the inside.

The outcomes

The manufacturer came away with a working understanding of Fiori development, a clear UX direction for its SAP launchpad, and an internal team that could evaluate and guide Fiori projects going forward. The advisory sessions gave the company a concrete starting point rather than a theoretical one, grounded in how its own workflows and users would interact with the new experience.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

The launchpad explains itself now.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

This team had a real SAP investment but a dated experience and no internal Fiori muscle, so the question today is less about training people on screens and more about giving them an assistant that meets them where the work is.

The data product

SAP Knowledge Graph

Grounds Joule in this manufacturer's real master data and process meaning, so answers reflect their parts, orders, and roles rather than generic defaults. It is the governed semantics layer that keeps the assistant honest about how this business actually runs.

The Joule agent

Knowledge Graph Navigator

Reads what a user is trying to do across their SAP transactions and surfaces the right action in plain language, so the launchpad explains itself instead of needing a custom Fiori build for every task. It drafts the next step and hands off to the right app, with the person confirming.

The Fiori app

Joule in the Fiori launchpad

Rather than training people on app after app, Joule sits in the launchpad as a copilot that answers in context, navigates to the right transaction, and walks a user through it. The UX advisory work becomes configuration instead of custom screens.

Embedded in the Fiori launchpad

We would mine the actual click paths in SAP Signavio first, map the app and role estate in SAP LeanIX, then let MIND accelerators carry the old launchpad patterns into a Joule-first experience.

What we built

  • Internal team equipped to evaluate and build Fiori apps

    Fiori training program

Hands-on SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 training for the internal development and IT team, building direct capability rather than relying on external delivery for every future project.

  • Clear Fiori UX direction established

    SAP UX advisory

A structured UX advisory covering Fiori design principles, app patterns, and how to structure a modern SAP user experience for the company's specific workflows and user roles.

  • Launchpad strategy defined for the SAP environment

    SAP Launchpad advisory

A second advisory engagement focused on the SAP Launchpad: how to organize it by role, what apps to surface, and how to make it the natural starting point for SAP users across the organization.
