Five-plus years of SAP application development and support for a mid-market animal nutrition manufacturer

A Mid-Market Animal Nutrition and Feed Manufacturer Delivered 2019–2024

Mindset has run a continuous SAP development and support engagement for a mid-market animal nutrition manufacturer since 2019, delivering ABAP enhancements, Fiori development, reporting, and forms through a consistent offshore team renewed annually for five-plus years.

By the numbers

  • 5+ years

Continuous SAP development and support relationship since 2019

  • 6+ renewals

    Annual engagement renewals without interruption

  • 1,020 hours

Senior offshore developer hours scoped in the 2024 renewal

Before

No reliable offshore SAP development option

  • Existing vendor arrangement did not include offshore SAP development and support.
  • Open UX direction question: Web Dynpro or Fiori, with no experienced partner to advise.
  • No long-term SAP development resource without adding permanent headcount.

After

A consistent offshore team, renewed five-plus years

  • Continuous ABAP development, Fiori changes, reporting, and forms through a stable offshore delivery model.
  • Clear Fiori direction put into practice through active development.
  • IS team plans with Mindset annually rather than searching for a new SAP resource every year.

Why this matters

A mid-market manufacturer that needed a durable offshore SAP development partner, not a one-off engagement. Five-plus years of renewals, the same IS sponsor, and steady delivery tells the real story about what long-term AMS looks like when the model is right.

The challenge

A mid-market manufacturer in the animal nutrition and feed industry needed ongoing SAP application development and support that its existing vendor arrangement did not cover. The VP of Information Systems wanted a long-term relationship with a capable offshore team, not a series of short engagements.

The company also had open questions about its SAP UX direction: whether to continue with ABAP Web Dynpro development or move toward Fiori. They needed a partner with experience in both who could give a straight answer.

What we did

Mindset started with a fixed monthly support agreement in 2019 and built a continuous managed-services engagement around it. The model is primarily offshore delivery: a senior SAP developer based in India handles the ongoing work, with a US-based engagement manager providing oversight and stakeholder communication.

The scope has stayed consistent across renewals: application enhancements, new ABAP development, changes to forms and reports, Fiori tile creation and changes, transport release into QA, functional specification documentation, and initial unit testing before client handover. A Mindset engagement manager keeps scope, schedule, and budget in order and is the main communication point for the IS team.

The engagement is priced time-and-materials and renewed annually. The 2024 renewal scoped roughly 1,020 senior-developer hours.

The outcomes

The relationship has run without interruption from 2019 through 2024, with the engagement renewed at least six times. The manufacturer has maintained a consistent, capable SAP development resource without carrying it in-house, and the IS team has a stable partner they can plan around year over year.

The steady renewal pattern reflects the quality of the delivery and the trust built with the IS leadership team across five-plus years.

If we built this today

Concept · not delivered scope

Modernize the SAP development factory.

This is a forward-looking concept, not the scope we delivered on this engagement. It is the build we would reach for now, grounded in SAP that ships today.

For five-plus years this animal nutrition manufacturer has leaned on a steady offshore SAP development and support capability for enhancements, Fiori tiles, reporting and forms, and that backlog is exactly the work a grounded development agent can help triage and scope today.

The data product

A governed development data product on SAP Business Data Cloud

A data product that publishes the object inventory, transport history and change-request log as governed business semantics so the agent reasons over real meaning, not raw tables. It runs against the customer SAP S/4HANA via Cloud Connector with no data copy.

The Joule agent

Knowledge Graph Navigator

Reads incoming change requests against the SAP Knowledge Graph and the live object dependencies in SAP S/4HANA, then proposes the impacted ABAP objects, Fiori tiles and transports plus a draft functional spec for a developer to confirm. It does the impact analysis a senior offshore developer would otherwise do by hand before estimating.

The Fiori app

Embedded Joule in the Fiori launchpad

There is no single off-the-shelf SAP S/4HANA app for managing a development and support backlog, so the honest answer is Joule embedded in the Fiori launchpad acting across the enhancement, tile and reporting apps developers already use. It surfaces context and drafts next steps inside the work rather than as a separate tool.

Embedded in the Fiori launchpad

We would mine how change requests actually move through the development queue in SAP Signavio, map the application and object landscape in SAP LeanIX, then let our MIND accelerators carry the old enhancements and forms forward into the modern Joule-grounded model.
